How We Grow Beyond the Classroom

Extending learning beyond the classroom to shape hearts, character, and confidence

At Summit Christian Academy, education doesn’t stop when the lesson ends.

Through meaningful enrichment opportunities, students are invited to explore their God-given gifts, build strong relationships, and grow in wisdom, creativity, and service. These experiences complement our classical academics by nurturing the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—helping students discover who God has made them to be and how they are called to engage the world with purpose and joy.

    Chapel

    Worship. Engage. Grow.

Chapel is a weekly rhythm at Summit Christian Academy and an important part of our spiritual formation.

    • Weekly chapel every Monday morning
    • Students from Pre-K through high school attend
    • Messages from local pastors and youth leaders from the Upper Valley community

Students also memorize a monthly Bible verse, celebrating their progress together at the end of each month. Chapel helps set hearts toward the Lord and reinforces our commitment to Christ-centered education.

    Outdoor Education

Learning Through Creation, History, and Experience

Outdoor education at Summit Christian Academy is a core enrichment experience that brings learning to life. These trips intentionally complement classroom studies in science, geography, and history through hands-on exploration, shared experiences, and age-appropriate adventure.

    Elementary School (Grades 3–5)

Students participate in overnight camping experiences at local campgrounds, where they explore:

    • Forest ecosystems and animal life
    • Basic camping and survival skills
    • God’s creation through hands-on discovery

These trips reinforce classroom learning while fostering independence, teamwork, and wonder.

    Middle School (Grades 6–8)

Middle school students participate in a rotating series of three immersive trips. Over three years, each student experiences all three:

    • Whidbey Island – Exploring life along Puget Sound through tide pools, clam beds, and Deception Pass
    • Olympic Peninsula & Olympic National Park – Rainforest ecosystems, lumber mills, coastal environments, and forest regeneration
    • Yellowstone National Park – A 10-day journey with historical and geological study, including six days exploring the park with guided tours

Each trip is supported by a long-standing curriculum developed by our faculty.

    High School (Grades 9–12)

High school students participate in major educational travel experiences scheduled every other year:

    • Washington, DC & Colonial America – A 10–14 day trip exploring Yorktown, Williamsburg, Jamestown, Gettysburg, Mount Vernon, and the nation’s capital
    • Boston, New York & Philadelphia – A 10–14 day immersion into early American history and culture
    • Mount St. Helens – Camping, Ape Cave exploration, and study of volcanic history and geography

Students complete research, planning, and daily academic logs as part of these trips.

Additional day trips throughout the year may include: Seattle Science Center, Pike Place Market, the State Capitol, museums, planetariums, zoos, flight museums, and regional historical sites.

Fundraisers help offset costs for longer trips. Local day trips are typically covered by tuition. Parents and supporters are welcome to join when possible.
